Softball Recap: Laker Has No Trouble Against Vassar

Laker barely beat Vassar the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lakers were the clear victors by a 20-6 margin over the Vulcans on Wednesday. That looming 20-6 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Lakers yet this season.

Madelyn Warneck made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-6 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Ellee Armbruster and Braylynn Witt did most of the damage at the plate: Armbruster went 5-for-6 with five runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI, while Witt went 4-for-6 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave Armbruster a new career-high in doubles (two). Lakyn Krohn was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Laker always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Laker is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Vassar, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Laker will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vulcans: the pair will be back at it again later today.
