Softball Recap: Shelby Victorious

Shelby came out on top against River Valley on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Whippets took their game against the Vikings 7-3. This was a revenge game for the Whippets: when they faced off against the Vikings on Tuesday, they had to take a 8-6 defeat.

Alyssa Booker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Braylee Sturts was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Reece Friend, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Shelby's record now sits at 12-7. As for River Valley, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-4.

Looking ahead, Shelby will venture away from home to challenge Margaretta at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Polar Bears have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.17 runs per game on average), something the Whippets will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for River Valley, they will welcome Highland at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
