Football Recap: Zariah Blue Leads Mainland's Defense on Tuesday

Mainland was the 30-6 winner over Matanzas when they last played one another back in March of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Mainland Buccaneers fell to the Matanzas Pirates 12-7. The Buccaneers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Even if they lost, Mainland's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was Zariah Blue with two. Sarah Lingo was another major factor on D, making 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defending one pass.

Mainland now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Matanzas, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-3.

After each having a week off, Mainland and New Smyrna Beach will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field one another at 7:00 p.m. on March 25th. Mainland's defense has only allowed 12.3 points per game this season, so New Smyrna Beach's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Matanzas, they will face off against Crescent City at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Crescent City 6.3, Matanzas 12.7) so any points scored will be well earned.
