Football Recap: Thompson Warriors vs. Hoover Buccaneers
Thompson faced Hoover in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Warriors fell just short of the Buccaneers by a score of 33-30. Despite 145 more yards than the Buccaneers, the Warriors couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
Despite the loss, Thompson still got an impressive performance from Trent Seaborn, who threw for 272 yards and two TDs while completing 87% of his passes, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Urijah Casey helped Seaborn out on the ground, rushing for 79 yards and one score.
Even if they lost, Thompson's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Cam Pritchett, Ami Moala, and Bradlee Cocchiaro, who each picked up one sack apiece. Pritchett was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Hoover can attribute much of their success to Kaleb Freeman, who threw for 187 yards and one touchdown on only 12 passes, and also rushed for 35 yards. The Buccaneers also relied on Freeman, who's 55-yard boot wound up being the difference in the game.
Thompson's loss was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 6-3. As for Hoover, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
