Baseball Recap: Niles Notre Dame Comes Up Short

Niles Notre Dame was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Benet Academy Redwings. That's two games in a row now that the Dons have lost by just one run.

Jimmy Harrington spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, James Spellman was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Niles Notre Dame's record now sits at 8-14-1. As for Benet Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season.

While Niles Notre Dame had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
