Baseball Recap: St. Joseph's Prep Hawks vs. Archbishop Wood Vikings
St. Joseph's Prep had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 11-8 to make it five. They lost 8-2 to the Archbishop Wood Vikings. If the Hawks were looking for revenge after losing 7-1 to the Vikings when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.
George Van Dean was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Jack Keenan was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base.
As for Archbishop Wood, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
On Archbishop Wood's side, they got a great performance from Brady Sell as he struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Sell has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Dom DiGuiseppe was excellent, earning one RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
St. Joseph's Prep and Archbishop Wood should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Hawks (ranked 58th) will meet Springside Chestnut Hill Academy (ranked 201st) at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Archbishop Wood will challenge Nueva Esperanza at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (14 vs. 556).
