4A Region 3 recap October 8, 2013
Greenwood added to the longest winning streak in 4A Region 3 this week by beating Yazoo City, 34-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Bulldogs.
The Indians fell to Greenwood 34-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Darius Wright was a bright spot for Yazoo City, as he threw for 188 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 11 yards in the defeat.
Kwadra Griggs threw for 238 yards and 2 touchdowns. He went 14-18 with 0 interceptions.
Alexander Hollins was the best receiver in the league this week as Tony Woolfolk's team lost to Clinton Gatewood's team. Hollins tallied 9 receptions for 121 yards. Kelvin Rembert helped Yazoo City's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 61 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Bulldogs' Griggs and Sammie Epps have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-4 quarterback Griggs has thrown for 1,124 yards this season, while Epps has 19 catches for 401 yards. Ladarius Galloway from Gentry leads the league in rushing with 1,451 yards.
A big matchup in 4A Region 3 this week will be when Greenwood takes on Yazoo County. As it stands, the Bulldogs are in first, while the Panthers are in third.
Cleveland made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,688 from 6,064. The improvement was largely due to a 34-18 victory over the Rams last week.
