Softball Game Preview: Southside Tigers vs. Westside Rams

Southside hasn't had much luck against Westside recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Rams at 6:00 p.m. Southside has given up an average of 23.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Southside took a 20-run loss the last time they faced off against Brashier Middle College Charter, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers won by a run and slipped past the Bengal 20-19. The Tigers' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.

Melissa Martinez was a standout: she got on base in five of her six plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Honesti McKinney, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Westside suffered their biggest defeat since March 6th on Thursday. They lost 12-2 to T.L. Hanna. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Rams, who until this game were averaging 3.65 runs allowed.

Southside's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-11. As for Westside, their loss dropped their record down to 13-4.

Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Southside has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Westside struggles in that department as they've averaged .507. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Southside might still be hurting after the 42-0 defeat they got from Westside when the teams last played on Tuesday. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
