League recap: Del Rio wins, gets boost in standings

5A Region IV District 29 recap Sept. 26, 2012

Del Rio was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in 5A Region IV District 29. The Rams defeated Brackenridge 61-28 earlier in the week.

United South and Rio Grande City played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with United South eventually emerging with a 23-20 victory. Isaac Cabello threw for 76 yards and one touchdown and ran for 64 yards in the win.

Alexander's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Aaron Swain threw for 326 and two touchdowns and Alex Bryand had 140 yards receiving. On the ground Xavier Skaggs chipped in 110 yards. Xavione Skaggs helped Alexander's passing attack out by catching four balls for 67 yards.

United's Alec Salas and Terry Dalehite have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Salas has thrown for 1490 yards this season, while Dalehite has 42 catches for 601 yards. The Panthers' Simba Ijeoma leads the league in rushing yards with 383.

A big matchup in 5A Region IV District 29 this week will be when Del Rio takes on Winn. As it stands, Steve Hoffman's team is in third, while the Mavericks are in fourth.

The Rams took down the Eagles 61-28 last week, the largest margin of any game.
