Preview: Crimson Cliffs Mustangs vs. Dixie Flyers

Two dominant players in Sean Felts and Kyle Lemke are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Crimson Cliffs Mustangs and the Dixie Flyers will face off at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Crimson Cliffs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They put the hurt on Cottonwood with a sharp 82-61 win. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up nine more assists than your opponent, as Crimson Cliffs did.

It was another big night for Felts, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. Those 29 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Drake Carroll, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Dixie slipped by Timpview 74-73 on Friday. Given Dixie's advantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked tenth, while Timpview is ranked 54th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Dixie's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lemke, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds and five blocks. That makes it three consecutive games in which Lemke has scored at least 25% of Dixie's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Roberts, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 assists.

The victory got Crimson Cliffs back to even at 5-5. As for Dixie, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.

Wednesday's match is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Crimson Cliffs have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 21.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Dixie struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 29.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Crimson Cliffs ended up a good deal behind Dixie when the teams last played last Saturday, losing 77-62. Will Crimson Cliffs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
