Basketball Recap: My'angel Evans' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southeastern Christian Academy over Cape Fear Academy

On Friday, the Southeastern Christian Academy Warriors opened the new year with a less-than-successful 43-33 loss to the Cape Fear Academy Hurricanes. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 363rd, while the Hurricanes are ranked 165th).

Southeastern Christian Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being My'Angel Evans, who posted 11 points and three steals. That's the most points Evans has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryleigh St.George, who had six points.

Cape Fear Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Emma Gibbs, who earned 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Naomi Sharewise was another key player, putting up 14 points along with seven steals and five assists.

Southeastern Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Cape Fear Academy, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4.

Southeastern Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-43 win against Conway Christian on the 7th. As for Cape Fear Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 59-12 victory against Wayne Country Day on the 7th.
