Basketball Recap: Rapides Sets Scoring Season-High Against Basile

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rapides). They blew past the Basile Bearcats 70-26 on Friday. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-16.

It was another big night for Zayveian Johnson, who went 14 for 23 on his way to 34 points and five steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Rapides' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Antwon Jones, who went 6 of 8 en route to 12 points along with six assists and six rebounds.

Rapides was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Rapides' victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-11. As for Basile, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-20 record this season.

Rapides wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 66-63 win against Opelousas Catholic on the 14th. Basile has also already played their next game, a 73-46 loss against Oak Hill on the 13th.
