Softball Recap: Freeman Mavericks vs. Godwin Eagles
Freeman had lost four straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 5-8 to make it five. They lost 7-0 to the Godwin Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mavericks of the 11-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.
Freeman saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryleigh Perks, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
As for Godwin, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 13-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.4 runs this season.
On Godwin's side, not much got past Katelyn Hubley, who gave up just a hit and racked up 19 Ks to keep Freeman off the board. Those 19 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Hubley.
On the hitting side, Avery Fankhauser was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Lila Palmer also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Freeman will square off against Hermitage at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mavericks are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Godwin, they will face off against Hanover at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
