Basketball Recap: Midway Raiders vs. Fairmont Golden Tornadoes
Midway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were dealt a 60-12 loss at the hands of the Fairmont Golden Tornadoes. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while the Golden Tornadoes are ranked 16th).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fairmont to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lyric McNair, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards. Shaniah Smith was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and ten steals.
Midway now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Fairmont, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.
Midway will square off against Spring Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Fairmont, they will face off against St. Pauls at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Fairmont is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season.
