Softball Recap: Cypress Lake Takes a Loss

Cypress Lake dropped their record down to 6-13 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They lost 12-4 to the Bonita Springs Bullsharks. The Panthers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bullsharks earlier this season, when they won 10-7.

As for Bonita Springs, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-14. 12 seems to be a good number for they as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

For Bonita Springs' part, Madelyn DeFrancesco spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. With that strong performance, DeFrancesco is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Angelina Magnuson, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. She has been hot recently, having posted four or more RBI the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Hayden Turner, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cypress Lake will host Gateway at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Bonita Springs, they will be playing at home against DeSoto County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bullsharks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 9.4 runs per game this season.
