Softball Game Preview: Cerro Gordo/Bement Broncos vs. LeRoy Panthers

Cerro Gordo/Bement hasn't had much luck against LeRoy recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Broncos will square off against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Cerro Gordo/Bement will bounce into Tuesday's match after beating Okaw Valley, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Broncos put the hurt on the Timberwolves with a sharp 22-10 victory on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Broncos.

Mya Durbin made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. That stolen base was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Cerro Gordo/Bement got a massive performance out of Jillian Durbin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those four runs gave Durbin a new career-high. Sierra Personette was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 4-for-4.

Cerro Gordo/Bement was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .692. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, LeRoy came tearing into Monday's game with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.9 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Bunnies 13-2.

LeRoy pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cerro Gordo/Bement, their record is now 3-4.

Cerro Gordo/Bement might still be hurting after the 20-1 defeat they got from LeRoy in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Broncos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
