Basketball Recap: Thayer Central Takes a Loss

Thayer Central lost against Fillmore Central back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Thayer Central Titans fell 58-49 to the Fillmore Central Panthers.

Despite the loss, Thayer Central still got an impressive performance from Sam Souerdyke, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 17 boards. That was a full 57.1% of Thayer Central's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Brady Degenhardt was another key player, going 5 for 10 en route to 11 points and five rebounds.

Fillmore Central had a senior duo take command as Kiffin Theobald dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards and Daniel Stoner went 7 of 13 on his way to 26 points and five rebounds. Theobald has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Joey Stoner, who had seven points.

Thayer Central's defeat dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Fillmore Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

Coming up, Thayer Central will take on Shelby-Rising City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Fillmore Central, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Panthers challenge the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sandy Creek is on a five-game streak of home wins, Fillmore Central a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
