Basketball Recap: Basic Extends Winning Streak to Five

Basic had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.3 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon Pirate with a sharp 74-50 victory. The Wolves pushed the score to 60-33 by the end of the third, a deficit the Pirate cut but never quite recovered from.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Basic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hudson Yakubik, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Yakubik a new career-high in assists (eight). Jeremiah Combs was another key player, going 7-for-11 to rack up 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals.

Basic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive matchups.

Basic's record is now 9-13. As for Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Basic is set to square off against their familiar foe Foothill at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon will challenge rival Green Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: M.J. Tucker and Brosnen Gilmore.
