Football Recap: King Takes a Loss

King extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-3. They took a 22-14 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rye Country Day Wildcats. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Vikings came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 134th in Connecticut, while the Wildcats are ranked 285th in New York).

As for Rye Country Day, their record now sits at 3-1. That looming 22-14 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.

Rye Country Day got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Charlie Pearle out in front who rushed for 75 yards and one TD on only ten carries. Those 75 rushing yards gave Pearle a new career-high. Rye Country Day also got a significant boost from Alex Vlasto, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 82 yards.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. King will venture away from home to face off against Hopkins at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Rye Country Day, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Montclair Kimberley Academy at 1:30 p.m. on October 11.
