Baseball Recap: Sullivan East's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Sullivan East had to endure an eight-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They blew past the Cherokee Chiefs 9-2 on Tuesday. The Patriots have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Chiefs, too.

Zach Johnson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Luke Blevins was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Takoda Crowder was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Sullivan East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cherokee only posted an OBP of .207.

The victory got Sullivan East back to even at 1-1. As for Cherokee, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sullivan East will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Volunteer at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cherokee, they will take on Elizabethton at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
