The Dorchester Academy Raiders will take on the Cross Stingrays at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Dorchester Academy's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Jefferson Davis Academy with a sharp 13-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for Dorchester Academy, who have now won three games in a row.
The team relied heavily on Brinley Pope, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Matthews, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.
Dorchester Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .556 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Cross had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They blew past the Warriors 15-5.
Ryan Mayers made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Cross got a massive performance out of Sydney Hollings, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Hollings has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alaysia Hollings, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Cross' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Dorchester Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dorchester Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like Cross struggles in that department as they've averaged .394. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
