Softball Recap: Black River Has No Trouble Against Wellington

While Black River didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-6), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Wellington Dukes on Thursday as they made off with a 10-4 win. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Dukes recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Abbey Kiser made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Mallory Eckert was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Madelyn Stief, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Black River kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wellington only managed three hits.

Black River's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Wellington, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Black River will welcome Columbia at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so the Pirates' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Wellington, they will square off against Clearview at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
