Basketball Game Preview: Spring Valley Vikings vs. Sumter Gamecocks

Having just played yesterday, the Spring Valley Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Sumter Gamecocks at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Spring Valley will bounce into Wednesday's matchup after beating Westwood, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Spring Valley took down Westwood 64-48 on Tuesday. The Vikings pushed the score to 55-30 by the end of the third, a deficit the Redhawks cut but never quite recovered from.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sumter). They breezed by West Florence to the tune of 68-21 on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Sumter found their leader in freshman Araina Ross, who went 7 for 16 on her way to 16 points in addition to six assists and three steals. Those six assists set a new season-high mark for Ross. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Dantzler, who posted six points.

Sumter was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for Sumter and bumps their season record up to 10-7. As for Spring Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 12-8.

Everything came up roses for Spring Valley against Sumter when the teams last played back in January, as the team secured an 86-43 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spring Valley since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
