The Desert Vista Thunder will face off against the Skyline Coyotes at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
On Thursday, Desert Vista got the win against Cibola by a conclusive 8-1. The Thunder have beaten the Raiders the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Raiders has come to flipping the script.
Desert Vista got a great performance from Kason Webb as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Sammy Skinner was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. Luke Hutton was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Desert Vista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Skyline put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Camelback a 14-0 shutout. Considering the Coyotes have won three matchups by more than 12 runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Jake Goins looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, Skyline got a massive performance out of Ryan Vitale, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Vitale has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Daniels, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Skyline pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Desert Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
Everything went Desert Vista's way against Skyline in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, as Desert Vista made off with a 9-1 win. Does Desert Vista have another victory up their sleeve, or will Skyline turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
