Volleyball Recap: Violet Armstrong's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Russia over Anna

It was a good run, but Russia unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Anna Rockets by a score of 3-2. The Raiders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Rockets earlier this season, when they won 3-0.

Russia came incredibly close to winning: the sets they lost were decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 27-25, 21-25, 17-25, 18-16.

Several Raiders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Violet Armstrong, who had 17 digs and four aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Kourtney Phlipot, who had 16 digs and two aces.

Anna found their leader in freshman Donna Foster, who had 19 digs and one assist. Foster has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more digs the last three times she's played.

Russia's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 8-4. As for Anna, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-5.

Russia has already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against Fort Recovery on the 20th. As for Anna, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-1 win against Houston on the 23rd.
