Basketball Recap: Robinson Bulldogs vs. Concord Spiders
The Robinson Bulldogs stacked a seventh blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Concord 66-30 at home. Given Robinson's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 75th, while the Spiders are ranked 350th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Robinson was led to victory by Li'Ara Batts and Camri Hobbs. Batts dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds, while Hobbs dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hobbs has scored at least a third of Robinson's points. Destinee Young was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Concord's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaylin Williams, who scored seven points along with six rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Taryn Blue, who scored nine points.
Robinson's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Concord, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.
Robinson won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully South Rowan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 35 last Tuesday. Concord will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Knights at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully Lake Norman Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 38 on Friday.
