Baseball Recap: Melvindale Takes a Loss

Melvindale extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 16-13 in the process. They lost 13-4 to the Roosevelt Bears. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 on Saturday.

As for Roosevelt, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-13 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Roosevelt's part, Carson Haley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Haley has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Roosevelt got a big performance out of Connor Bedo, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run. That's the most hits Bedo has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Webster, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Melvindale will face off against Erie-Mason at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.14 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Roosevelt, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Anderson at 4:30 p.m. The Titans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
