Recap: Atholton Raiders vs. Meade Mustangs
The Atholton Raiders's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Meade by a score of 77-74. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Friday (62), Atholton still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Atholton still got an impressive performance from Amir Shaheed, who went 6 for 13 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 3 assists. The game was Shaheed's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Deion Dent, who scored 18 points.
Even though they lost, Atholton were working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meade got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ashton Turman out in front who scored 19 points. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for him. Keon Scott was another key contributor, scoring 17 points.
Atholton bumped their record down to 1-4 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points per game. As for Meade, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.
Atholton will head out on the road to face off against St. Mary's at 2:10 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (St. Mary's is ranked 175th, while Atholton is ranked 183rd). Meade will be home for the holidays to greet Northeast at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Northeast's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
