Football Recap: Merritt Island Christian Starts Season with Win on the Road

Merritt Island Christian had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They were the clear victors by a 38-14 margin over the Academy at the Lakes Wildcats on Friday. With the Cougars ahead 38-14 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Merritt Island Christian's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emmerson Hahn, who rushed for 94 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries, and also picked up 41 receiving yards. That's the most rushing yards Hahn has posted since back in August of 2024. Another passer making a difference was Bode Handwork, who threw for 127 yards and one TD on only 11 passes.

Coming up, Merritt Island Christian will face off against Ocala Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Academy at the Lakes, they will square off against Countryside Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
