Softball Recap: Burleson Extends Road Winning Streak to Six

Burleson had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They put the hurt on the Paschal Panthers with a sharp 13-3 win on Friday. The Elks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Ryan Hovland was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Burleson got a massive performance out of Daelyn Gonzales, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Gonzales a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addy Sellers, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Burleson hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive games.

Burleson pushed their record up to 22-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Paschal, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-9.

Burleson will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Saturday.
