Softball Game Preview: Mary G. Montgomery Vikings vs. Daphne Trojans

Mary G. Montgomery is 0-10 against Daphne since April of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Vikings will take on the Trojans at 9:00 a.m.

Mary G. Montgomery heads in on the heels of a playoff contest last Saturday. They came up short against Baker, falling 14-2.

Meanwhile, Daphne entered their tilt with Fairhope on Tuesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They had just enough and edged out the Pirates 5-3.

Victoria Moten spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Abby J Johnson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Dasia Matt was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Daphne pushed their record up to 36-6 with the win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Mary G. Montgomery, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-17-1.

Mary G. Montgomery couldn't quite get it done against Daphne in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
