Softball Game Preview: Michigan City Wolves vs. Hammond Central Wolves

Michigan City will venture away from home to take on Hammond Central at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Michigan City is looking for their season's first victory.

Michigan City came up short against Valparaiso on Wednesday, falling 14-1.

Michigan City saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Brehmer, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Hammond Central posted their closest win since May 1, 2024 on Friday. They skirted past Merrillville 17-15. The victory continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won four in a row.

Hammond Central got a massive performance out of Neveena Funches, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Johanna Harper, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases.

Hammond Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .571 or higher in five consecutive matches.

Michigan City's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Hammond Central, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Michigan City took their victory against Hammond Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 21-4 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for Michigan City since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
