The Riverside Warriors will square off against the Nitro Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Riverside is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.
Riverside is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Sissonville, who was ranked 15th at the time (Riverside was ranked 24th). The Warriors took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians on Friday. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nitro). Everything went their way against South Charleston on Friday as they made off with a 15-1 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Mckenzie Hyatt made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2025. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zoe Hyatt, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and three doubles. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Karley Evans, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Nitro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Riverside's defeat dropped their record down to 18-9. As for Nitro, their victory bumped their record up to 6-18.
Nitro's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Riverside has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. It's a different story for Nitro, though, as they've only averaged .337. Will they be able to contain Riverside's hitters?
Everything went Riverside's way against Nitro in their previous matchup back in April, as Riverside made off with a 20-9 win. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
