Although the 2017-18 Nebraska girls basketball season is just getting under way, a pair of the Cornhusker State's top talents are playing at a very high level already.

Faith Simpson of Wauneta-Palisade and Superior's Kalynn Meyer sit atop this week's Top 10 with the top two individual girls basketball performances to this point in the season. But in reality, they could have overtaken half of the spots between them.

Simpson, the North Platte Telegraph's reigning Girls Basketball Player of the Year, played her way into the top spot by completing a rare feat, indeed. The 6-foot senior hit McPherson County for 15 points, 15 rebounds, 15 steals, 11 blocked shots and a pair of assists in a 37-23 win December 1 to complete a quadruple-double.

But don't think for a moment that Simpson is a one-game pony. The 2016-17 Lincoln Journal Star second team all-stater also put together a 17 point, 7 rebound, 6 assist, 12 steal and 2 blocked shot performance against Wallace in a 59-15 triumph November 30. On the year, Simpson is averaging 21.8 points, 2.8 assists, 9 rebounds, 8.8 steals and 4.3 blocked shots a contest.

Meyer, on the other hand, has already produced a pair of triple-doubles, and was relatively close to a third. The sophomore sensation earned the No. 2 spot with her 31 point, 22 rebound, 3 steal and 10 blocked shot performance against Republic County in a 65-30 Wildcat win December 2.

The 6-3 forward also put together a 17 point, 18 rebound and 10 blocked shot triple-double against Blue Hill in a 47-40 win December 7, and helped upend Sutton 57-13 on November 30 with a 24 point, 21 rebound, 1 assist, 2 steal and 5 blocked shot performance.

Morrill freshman Ilycia Guerue has started her prep career with a bang, climbing into this week's Top 10 after scoring a 24 point, 11 rebound, 6 assist, 10 steal and 1 blocked shot triple-double in a 67-61 loss to Kimball December 9. Friend senior Raeleigh Menke and Hannah Sheridan, a Santee sophomore, round out the Top 5.

Classes B, C2, D1 and D2 are all represented in this week's Top 10. But plenty of athletes in Classes A and C1 are off to fast starts as well. Pierce's Maggie Brahmer (12 points, 20 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocked shots in a 53-51 win over O'Neill) and Regan Glock of Douglas County West (14 points, 17 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals in a 69-30 win over Boys Town) had two of Class C1's top performances, while Lincoln East's Rachel Weber represented Class A well with her 14 point, 9 rebound, 4 assist and 5 steal performance in a 64-44 win over Elkhorn South.

The stats used for this week's Top 10 were pulled from MaxPreps' stats database Wednesday evening for games played through Tuesday.
