If Camarillo wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Ventura, they should've done a better job of containing Derek Garcia. The Cougars enjoyed a cozy 38-21 win over the Scorpions on Friday for which the team can thank Garcia, who rushed for 132 yards and four TDs on only five carries, and also threw for 201 yards on 16 of 23 attempts. His longest rush was for an impressive 51 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

One reason for the win was Ventura's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Nathan Radwich with two.

Despite the loss, Camarillo still got an impressive performance from Shane Feller, who rushed for 189 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Feller's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 168 rushing yards.

The victory made it two in a row for Ventura and bumps their season record up to 2-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 27 points in those games. As for Camarillo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Ventura and Camarillo should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Cougars (ranked 161st) will meet Dos Pueblos (ranked 548th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Camarillo will take on Oxnard at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th with a big rank advantage (228 vs. 527).
