Baseball Recap: Walton-Verona Extends Winning Streak to Four

Walton-Verona came tearing into Wednesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Simon Kenton Pioneers. For the Bearcats, this counts as revenge for the 9-1 win the Pioneers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Walton-Verona got a great performance from Bronson Corpus as he struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Corpus has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Walton-Verona's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Kerns, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Trever Bauwens was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Walton-Verona's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Simon Kenton, they moved to 4-3-3 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Walton-Verona will face off against George Rogers Clark at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Simon Kenton, they will head out to square off against Holy Cross at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pioneers are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
