Softball Game Preview: Cooper Dragons vs. Houston Christian Mustangs

The Cooper Dragons will take on the Houston Christian Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Cooper lost 24-10 to Lutheran South Academy on Wednesday. The Dragons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Houston Christian got the win against The Woodlands Christian Academy on Tuesday by a conclusive 10-2. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Millie Metz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up 15 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Yazmine Johnson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddie Pickett, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Houston Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Houston Christian now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Cooper, they now have a losing record of 3-4-1.

Cooper might still be hurting after the 14-2 defeat they got from Houston Christian in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
