Baseball Recap: Heritage Christian Academy Warriors vs. Hopkinsville Tigers
Heritage Christian Academy had lost seven straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-13 to make it eight. They lost 10-0 to the Hopkinsville Tigers. If the Warriors were looking for revenge after losing 6-0 to the Tigers when the teams met back in April of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Hopkinsville, the win got them back to even at 11-11. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
For Hopkinsville's part, they got a great performance from Joshua ?Deuce? Embrey II as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. The Tigers are 2-1 when Embrey II allows two or fewer hits, but 9-10 otherwise.
At the plate, Gavin Mitchell was a standout: he went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Sweeney, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Heritage Christian Academy will head out to challenge Community Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hopkinsville, they will venture away from home to square off against Christian County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Colonels' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
