Soccer Game Preview: Vela vs. Sharyland

Vela is 0-5 against Sharyland since January of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Vela Sabercats will host the Sharyland Rattlers at 6:00 p.m. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Vela is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They came up short against McAllen, falling 9-1. While losing is never fun, the Sabercats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 629th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 214th).

Meanwhile, Sharyland had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 goals) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They never let the Diamondbacks onto the board and left with a 1-0 win. The Rattlers' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three matches.

Sharyland pushed their record up to 5-4-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored ten goals over those three contests. As for Vela, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.

Vela suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Sharyland in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Vela avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
