Volleyball Recap: Thursday's Loss Ends Columbus' Winning Streak

Columbus was the 2-0 winner over Central when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Blue Devils took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions on Thursday. The Blue Devils' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Columbus was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-22.

Keira Parsons paced Columbus' offense, picking up seven kills. Parsons got some help from Emma Cicora and her 16 assists. Finally, Marianna Ollervidez kept Columbus' defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.

Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Abby Kreft, who had six digs and four aces. That's the most aces Kreft has posted since back in October of 2024. Julianna Johnston was another key player, getting six digs and two aces.

Columbus' loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Central, their win was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1.

Coming up, Columbus will take on Mount Vernon in a tournament on Saturday. As for Central, they will welcome Hebron Christian at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday.
