Basketball Recap: Sutherland Sailors vs. Mullen Broncos
Sutherland unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 36-30 to the Mullen Broncos on Thursday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it 14 in a row.
Sutherland's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Mortimer, who posted four points in addition to eight boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Zayn Green, who had four points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Leading Mullen to victory were Jacob Walker and Nicholas Gonzalez. Walker dropped a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards, while Gonzalez earned nine points. Walker has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played.
Sutherland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 61-48 victory against Brady on the 8th. Mullen has also already played their next matchup (against Valentine), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
