Volleyball Recap: Central Takes a Loss

If Central was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Yosemite on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Grizzlies fell just short of the Madera South Stallions by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Stallions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in March.

The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Madera South scored at least ten points in every set. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 23-25, 15-10.

Cohen Gatzka paced Central's offense, picking up 11 kills. Gatzka got some help from Angel Alberto Martinez Perez and his 30 assists.

Central has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Madera South, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-19 record this season.

Central and Madera South could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Grizzlies (ranked 823rd) will meet Roosevelt (ranked 323rd) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Madera South will take on Hoover at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (496 vs. 229).
