Softball Recap: Brazos' Loss Ends Three-Game Winning Streak at Home

Friday just wasn't the day for Brazos's offense. They fell 4-0 to the Van Vleck Leopards on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Cougars' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Ava Aguilar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brazos saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amie Vasquez, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Brazos' defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-16-1. As for Van Vleck, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-4-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Brazos will take on rival Hempstead at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Van Vleck is set to face off against their familiar foe East Bernard at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Leopards are on a three-game streak of home wins, the Brahmas a five-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
