Basketball Recap: Yulee Extends Winning Streak to Five

Yulee won the last time they faced Ridgeview and things went their way on Monday too. The Yulee Hornets were the clear victor by a 69-44 margin over the Ridgeview Panthers. The Hornets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three games by 25 points or more this season.

Yulee was led to victory by Shamar Gibbs and Chase Cannone. Gibbs went 7 of 12 on his way to 17 points and four steals, while Cannone went 5 of 11 on his way to 10 points along with eight steals and seven assists. Gibbs is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed four or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Kirchner, who went 5 of 8 en route to 13 points.

Ridgeview's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Stechschulte, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Another player making a difference was William Zeigler, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 10 points and three blocks.

The win was the fifth in a row for Yulee, bringing their record for this year to 5-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points per game. As for Ridgeview, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Yulee will challenge First Coast at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. First Coast is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.6 points per game this season. As for Ridgeview, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 44-32 victory against Baldwin on the 10th.
