Softball Recap: Stark County Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Stark County ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the ROWVA/Williamsfield Cougars 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rebels have posted since May 6, 2025.

Stark County let Hallie Newton and Kenna Sparks run wild. Newton went 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI, while Sparks went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three runs gave Sparks a new career-high. Cambri Holmstrom was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Stark County and bumps their season record up to 6-7. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for ROWVA/Williamsfield, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-10.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Stark County is set to take on their familiar foe Princeville at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, ROWVA/Williamsfield will square off against rival Galva at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
