Football Recap: Anderson Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Anderson extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 4-4. They lost 32-6 to the University Prep Panthers. If the Cubs were looking for revenge after losing 25-8 to the Panthers when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Anderson lost, don't look at Jagger Johnson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 80 yards, and also picked up 45 receiving yards. Johnson was even better on defense, making ten total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defending one pass.

As for University Prep, their win bumped their record up to 3-5. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their six-point performance the contest before.

University Prep found their leader in freshman Talis Payne, who rushed for 210 yards and one TD on only 12 carries, and also threw for 140 yards and one touchdown. Payne's passing game has become a key predictor of the Panthers' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-5 otherwise. Braeden Ballensky was another key back, rushing for 84 yards and a pair of scores.

Anderson didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 64-18 victory against Central Valley on the 31st. As for University Prep, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 34-14 defeat against West Valley on the 1st.
