Basketball Recap: Maria Regina Comes Up Short

Maria Regina was not able to break out of their rough patch on Sunday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a hard 61-46 fall against the Notre Dame Academy Gators. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 63-43 back in December of 2024.

Giuliana Dito was her usual excellent self, going 8 for 11 en route to 24 points and six assists for Notre Dame Academy. That's the most assists Dito has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gianna Montagna, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards.

Maria Regina's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Notre Dame Academy, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maria Regina will take on Kennedy Catholic at 5:45 p.m. on January 28th. As for Notre Dame Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against St. Edmund Prep at 6:30 p.m. Notre Dame Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.9 points per game this season.
