Basketball Recap: Camaury Davis and Byron Hurst Secure Win for Chincoteague

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Northampton, Chincoteague was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They blew past the Holly Grove Christian Eagles 52-28. The win was all the more spectacular given the Ponies' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 381st in Virginia, while the Eagles are ranked 61st in Maryland).

Chincoteague was led to victory by Byron Hurst and Camaury Davis. Hurst posted ten points and seven assists, while Davis had 13 points. Davis is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games he's played. Matthew Taylor was another key player, putting up six points and three blocks.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Chincoteague was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Holly Grove Christian only posted four assists.

Holly Grove Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jackson Ellis, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten boards, and Duke Slusser, who scored six points.

Chincoteague's record is now 4-8. As for Holly Grove Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Chincoteague has already played their next contest, an 82-50 loss against Arcadia on the 6th. As for Holly Grove Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 57-18 defeat against Greenwood Mennonite on the 7th.
