Preview: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial Wolverines vs. Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots

The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial Wolverines will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

After a string of seven wins, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 48-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Roma. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Emiliano Colunga, who rushed for 158 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.3 yards per carry. Colunga really tore up the turf during one magnificent 73-yard run. Robert Moralez was another key contributor, picking up 130 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Mission Veterans Memorial can now show off three landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Sharyland as Mission Veterans Memorial made off with a 30-8 victory. The win made it back-to-back wins for Mission Veterans Memorial.

Braden Luedeker continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 270 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.8 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 83 yards on only six carries. Luedeker is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Abel Lucio, who picked up 85 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The team's defense also helped out by holding Sharyland to a paltry 218 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Mission Veterans Memorial's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out seven times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Chris Garza and his two sacks.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial's defeat dropped their record down to 7-1. As for Mission Veterans Memorial, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 4-4 record this season.

Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as both teams haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.8 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Mission Veterans Memorial struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.9 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial barely slipped by Mission Veterans Memorial in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, winning 22-21. Will Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial repeat their success, or does Mission Veterans Memorial have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
