The Kankakee Valley Kougars will square off against the Kouts Mustangs & Fillies at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Tuesday, Kankakee Valley didn't have quite enough to beat Munster and fell 3-2. The Kougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.
Kankakee Valley started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 20-25, 18-25, 25-23, 25-17, 15-11.
Meanwhile, Kouts lost 3-0 to Boone Grove last Tuesday.
While Kouts ultimately came up short, they really made Boone Grove work, particularly in the first set. The final score came out to 26-24, 25-18, 25-18.
Kankakee Valley will have to keep a close watch on Bella Birky and Erin Stewart, a pair of players who had a big impact on Kouts' prior game. Birky had ten digs and two assists, while Stewart had nine kills and eight digs. Birky has been hot, having posted ten or more digs the last six times she's played.
Kankakee Valley's loss dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Kouts, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-16.
Kankakee Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Kouts in their previous meeting back in August, sneaking past 2-1. Will the Kougars repeat their success, or do the Mustangs & Fillies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
